Ben-Gvir’s call for Al-Aqsa synagogue to spark religious war: Palestine

Palestine strongly condemned Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir’s call to build a synagogue inside Al-Aqsa Mosque in East Jerusalem, labeling it as a dangerous attempt to incite a religious war in the region. Palestinian Authority spokesman Nabil Abu Rudeineh emphasized that the Al-Aqsa Mosque is a red line that must not be crossed, urging immediate international intervention to prevent any alterations to its status.

The Palestinian Foreign Ministry warned of severe consequences following Ben-Gvir’s provocative statement, accusing the Israeli government of pushing the region towards uncontrollable violence. Ben-Gvir’s controversial assertion about Jews’ right to pray at the site and his plan to construct a synagogue there have sparked outrage, especially amidst increasing incursions by illegal Israeli settlers in the area.

Al-Aqsa Mosque holds significant religious importance for both Muslims and Jews, with conflicting narratives over its history and ownership. The international community has not recognized Israel’s annexation of East Jerusalem, where the mosque is located, adding to the ongoing tensions in the region.
