In a recent evening address, President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that Ukrainian forces have made significant advances in Russia’s Kursk Oblast, capturing additional settlements and pushing 1 to 3 kilometers into the region. By August 20, Ukrainian military had already taken control of 1,263 square kilometers and 93 settlements, including Sudzha town. Zelensky credited this operation with preventing the occupation of Sumy Oblast and its center, Sumy city. He affirmed that the progress aligns with their plan and stressed the importance of the operation’s goals, which include replenishing Russian prisoners of war for potential exchanges.
