Sudan hit by devastating rains and floods

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) reported that 317,000 people in Sudan have been affected by heavy rains and flooding, with 118,000 displaced across 16 states. The flooding has resulted in 39 deaths, 112 injuries, and widespread destruction of homes.

In eastern Sudan, over 32,000 people have been affected, with damaged schools and shelters causing significant challenges. River Nile and Northern states have also faced extensive damage, displacing thousands and creating critical needs in health, water, sanitation, and shelter sectors.

Humanitarians are providing emergency aid, including food, shelter, medicine, and other life-saving assistance. The reopening of the Adre border crossing from Chad into Darfur will enable the delivery of essential supplies to those in need.

The situation in Sudan remains dire, with urgent needs for medical supplies, tents, awareness campaigns, and more. Despite the challenges, humanitarian partners are actively working to address the damage and prevent further harm.
