Smotrich suggests extra 3B NIS for war needs – Israel News

The government is set to approve Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich’s proposal for a nearly three billion NIS budget supplement on Sunday. This funding will support ongoing evacuations from the North, expand the military reserve program, and provide aid to victims of October 7 without increasing the deficit target.

The budget supplement of 2.7 billion shekels will cover the continued stay of North residents in hotels, self-evacuation, unemployment compensation, and return-to-work grants. Additionally, 200 million shekels will go towards expanding the military reserve program, ensuring readiness for future challenges.

The plan, if approved, will provide financial stability until the end of the year. It also includes provisions for implementing recommendations from the Public Committee for Victims of October 7, allocating 250 million in 2024 and 750 million in 2025 for assistance programs.

Finance Minister Smotrich emphasized the importance of economic and security measures during times of crisis, highlighting Israel’s financial strength and commitment to citizen welfare. The government is urged to prioritize support for those affected by recent events and maintain fiscal responsibility throughout the recovery process.
