After Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif promised a significant cut in electricity prices, Power Minister Awais Laghari stated that giving a timeline for the relief’s implementation would be premature. In his Independence Day speech, PM Shehbaz addressed the issue of high electricity bills and pledged a reduction in tariffs in the coming days.

During an interview with Voice of America’s Urdu service, Minister Laghari refrained from disclosing specifics on when the promised tariffs would be reduced. He suggested provincial governments follow Punjab’s lead in providing power subsidies to alleviate the burden on consumers.

Although this may have disappointed those anticipating immediate relief, Minister Laghari encouraged other provinces to emulate Punjab’s initiative to ease the financial strain on electricity consumers. He highlighted the positive impact of Punjab’s recent relief efforts and urged other provincial governments to demonstrate similar courage in offering subsidies.

Laghari also estimated the cost of implementing power subsidy programs in Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, emphasizing the potential benefits of such measures for consumers.
