Poly seeks FG support to mass produce its electric tricycle

The Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro, Ogun State, is making strides in innovation with the development of a newly invented electric automated tricycle. The Rector, Dr Mukail Akinde, expressed plans to establish a mini assembly plant for the production of this innovation, emphasizing the need for support from the Federal Government and corporate entities.

The institution aims to reduce importation, curb foreign exchange pressure, and create job opportunities for youths through the commercial production of the tricycle. Akinde highlighted the importance of funding for further research, development, and expansion of innovative projects.

The electric tricycle, a first of its kind produced at the institution’s innovation centre, boasts features like a solar-powered panel for charging. The Rector envisions partnerships with industry players like Innoson to scale production for the market.

The Governing Council, led by Alhaji Garba Gashua, showed enthusiasm and pledged support towards realizing the full potential of the innovation. The collaboration between academia, government, and industry holds promise for advancing local production in the automobile sector.
