Telegram CEO Pavel Durov Arrested in France
Billionaire founder and CEO of Telegram, Pavel Durov, was arrested at Paris Le Bourget Airport on Saturday evening. Durov, along with his girlfriend and security guard, was detained following an arrest warrant issued for alleged lack of cooperation with French security forces. Authorities suspect him of involvement in drug trafficking and serious crimes, mainly due to encrypted messages used on the Telegram platform.
European authorities believe Telegram has facilitated organized crime, leading to offenses and crimes. Durov, a French and Russian citizen, faces charges related to terrorism, drug trafficking, fraud, and crimes against children. He could potentially face up to 20 years in prison in France and is set to appear in court as a French citizen to address the accusations.
