Ogun doctors call on Abiodun to settle pay row

In a recent statement, Dr. Oluseye Olufunso, the Chairman of the Association of Nigerian Private Medical Practitioners in Ota Zone, Ogun State, called on Governor Dapo Abiodun to address the ongoing strike by doctors in state-owned hospitals. This strike has left many residents without access to medical care, adding to the economic hardships they already face.

The strike, initiated by the state chapter of the Nigerian Medical Association, stems from disparities in remuneration, with doctors seeking an upward review of their salaries. Many have left for better-paying positions in neighboring states, exacerbating the healthcare crisis in Ogun State.

Dr. Olufunso emphasized the importance of resolving the strike promptly to restore normalcy in the healthcare sector. He also highlighted the need for governments to prioritize the health sector and improve conditions for medical workers.

Amidst these challenges, a free medical outreach in Sango Ota aims to provide care to over 500 residents and raise awareness about common health issues like hypertension and diabetes. Dr. Olufunso stressed the crucial role of preventive care in avoiding sudden health crises and urged individuals to prioritize their well-being.
