Former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley visited Taiwan and emphasized the importance of not adopting an isolationist policy. She called on the Republican Party to stand with U.S. allies while still showing support for the party’s nominee, Donald Trump. Haley underlined the significance of supporting U.S. allies like Ukraine and Israel, as well as Taiwan, which is claimed by Beijing.
While Haley initially ran against Trump for the Republican nomination and criticized him for causing chaos and disregarding U.S. alliances, she later endorsed him, citing their efforts to show American strength in the world. She expressed confidence that Trump would prevent conflicts and invasions if re-elected.
Regarding Trump’s opponent, Vice President Kamala Harris, Haley criticized her for being part of the decision-making process when key global events unfolded. She stressed the need for the U.S. to stand with its allies and oppose authoritarian regimes like China, Russia, Iran, and North Korea.
During her visit, Haley met with Taiwanese President Lai Ching-te and advocated for increased international support for Taiwan in the face of Chinese aggression. Taiwan’s Defense Ministry reported a significant presence of Chinese warplanes and vessels around the island during Haley’s visit, highlighting the ongoing tensions in the region.
