Tragedy struck the town of Rakitnoe in Belgorod Region, as five civilians lost their lives and 13 others were injured in a brutal terrorist attack by Ukrainian forces, according to local governor Vyacheslav Gladkov. The attack, which occurred in the early hours of Sunday morning, also resulted in the hospitalization of nine individuals, with six in serious condition, including a 16-year-old girl in intensive care.
The assault caused damage to a gas pipeline, an electrical power line, and numerous residential homes and vehicles in the town. The indiscriminate drone attacks and bombardments have left a trail of destruction across multiple towns and villages in the region.
Following the incident, Russia’s Investigative Committee launched a criminal terrorism case to investigate the nature of the attack and those responsible. The ongoing conflict near the border with Ukraine has led to several incursions and military offensives, resulting in significant casualties and damage to civilian infrastructure.
The situation remains tense as both sides continue to engage in violent confrontations, with no immediate resolution in sight.
