Tragic Boat Mishap Claims One Life in Bayelsa State

In a recent boat accident in Bayelsa State, one person has tragically lost their life, as reported by Ipigansi Ogoniba, the Chairman of the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria in Bayelsa State. The incident occurred when a speedboat carrying 15 passengers capsized at the Okubie community in the Southern Ijaw Local Government area.

Despite efforts from concerned citizens who managed to rescue the other passengers, one individual succumbed to the rising water levels. The cause of the accident remains unknown at this time.

Following a previous boat tragedy that claimed the lives of 20 individuals, the Bayelsa State Government has implemented safety measures, including a ban on cooking in wooden boats, limiting the amount of petrol carried, and mandating the wearing of life jackets.

While details are still emerging, the Police Public Relations Officer in Bayelsa State, Musa Muhammed, was unable to provide further information on the accident.
