Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has raised concerns about the preferential treatment given to Oando Plc in the oil and gas sector by the Federal Government. He questioned why Oando received accelerated approval to purchase onshore assets of AGIP and ENI while other deals faced delays.
Atiku also criticized the administration of Bola Tinubu for allegedly implementing a sham subsidy regime, contradicting claims of subsidy removal. He pointed out the increase in subsidies under the Tinubu administration, leading to petrol scarcity and hindering investments like the Dangote Refinery.
Furthermore, Atiku highlighted the House of Representatives’ inaction on the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), which he accused of mortgaging national oil assets. He emphasized the need for transparency and accountability in the oil sector.
Notably, Atiku condemned the rise in human rights abuses under the Tinubu administration, citing cases of enforced disappearances and intimidation of journalists. He warned against potential sanctions due to rights violations, urging Tinubu to address these issues promptly.
