Ukraine urges west to demonstrate ability to hit Russian targets

In a bold move, Ukraine is seeking permission to use long-range Storm Shadow missiles to target key locations deep inside Russia to end the ongoing conflict. Despite the US not supporting this strategy, Kyiv believes that demonstrating the ability to strike high-value military sites near Moscow could push Russia to the negotiating table. President Zelenskiy emphasized the need to retaliate against Russian aggression and highlighted the effectiveness of Ukraine’s counterattacks.

The use of Storm Shadow missiles, developed by an Anglo-French collaboration, would require approval from the US due to some components supplied by them. However, the White House is concerned about escalating the conflict. Meanwhile, Ukraine’s daring drone attacks in Russia have proven to be cost-effective and strategic in reducing enemy combat aircraft.

While some believe that showing Russia its ability to strike deep within could prompt a reassessment in the Kremlin, doubts remain regarding Putin’s willingness to negotiate. Ultimately, Ukraine’s focus should remain on defending critical territories like Donbas, despite Russia’s attempt to break them through attrition. International support and solidarity with Ukraine remain strong as they continue to resist Russian aggression.
