Turkey and Russia Resume Joint Ground Patrols in Syria
Turkey and Russia have resumed their joint ground patrols in Syria after a hiatus since last October due to security concerns, announced the Turkish National Defense Ministry on Friday.
According to the Ministry, a total of 344 joint ground patrol activities had been conducted until October 5, 2023, before they were suspended.
The latest joint ground patrol, involving 4 vehicles and 24 personnel, took place on August 22, 2024, in the eastern part of the Operation Peace Spring zone.
These patrols are carried out in accordance with the Sochi agreement signed between Ankara and Moscow on October 22, 2019, to ensure stability in northern Syria and combat terrorism.
The primary objective of these joint patrols is to enhance border security, protect civilian populations, and identify and neutralize terrorist organizations such as PKK/YPG-SDF in the region.
