Russia and Ukraine conducted a prisoner swap on Saturday, mediated by the United Arab Emirates (UAE), with 115 military personnel from each side being exchanged.
The Russian Defense Ministry stated that the 115 Russian servicemen captured by Ukrainian forces in the border region of Kursk were returned from Ukrainian-controlled territory. These military personnel are now in Belarus and will eventually be transferred to Russia for treatment and rehabilitation in Defense Ministry medical facilities.
In return, 115 Ukrainian military personnel were released. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed gratitude for the return of their defenders, praising the National Guard, Armed Forces, Navy, and State Border Guard Service.
The UAE played a crucial role in mediating the swap, which marked the 55th exchange of prisoners of war since the conflict began in February 2022. Prior to this, both countries had exchanged 95 prisoners in July.
