An explosion outside a synagogue in La Motte, southern France, caused by two cars set on fire, injured a police officer, deemed as a criminal act by Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin.
Authorities are actively searching for the perpetrator while Darmanin and Prime Minister Gabriel Attal are set to visit the site. The explosion is believed to have been triggered by a hidden gas canister in one of the cars.
With La Motte being a popular resort town, the incident has sparked concern. Darmanin stated that anti-Semitic acts in France have seen a significant rise, with 887 reported in the first half of 2024, nearly triple the number from the same period in 2023.
