Israel to Withdraw from Philadelphi Corridor Along Gaza Border

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has made a pledge to US President Joe Biden to withdraw the Israeli army one kilometer from the 14-kilometer-long Philadelphi Corridor along the Gaza-Egypt border. This move is part of ongoing discussions between Israel and the US regarding the military offensive on the Gaza Strip and regional security implications.

The Philadelphi Corridor, a demilitarized buffer zone, has been a major point of contention in negotiations between Israel and Hamas. The withdrawal date and the number of military sites to remain in the area have not been specified yet.

Efforts by the US, Qatar, and Egypt to broker an agreement between Israel and Hamas for a prisoner exchange and ceasefire have stalled, with Netanyahu refusing to meet Hamas’ demands. The brutal offensive on Gaza has resulted in numerous Palestinian deaths and injuries, with a blockade exacerbating the dire humanitarian situation.
