Prepare for a Challenging Winter in Ukraine
The upcoming cold months in Ukraine are predicted to be even more challenging than last year, according to the country’s Energy Minister German Galushchenko. He advised citizens to brace themselves for a winter that will be difficult to cope with, especially due to Russian airstrikes impacting the Ukrainian energy network.
Efforts are underway to restore and build additional energy generation facilities while establishing a decentralized energy supply system for the population. However, Galushchenko emphasized that it may not be sufficient, urging the need to prepare for an arduous winter.
EU Energy Commissioner Kadri Simson expressed concerns about Ukraine’s energy capacity losses, which could lead to unbearable living conditions in some areas. With warnings from national power-grid operators, it is evident that the country may face energy shortages during the colder months.
As Ukraine struggles to recover from damages to its energy infrastructure, support from Western allies, including air defense systems, has been requested by President Vladimir Zelensky. The situation underscores the importance of preparing for a challenging winter ahead.
