An FIR has been filed against 12,000 individuals, including 51 identified persons, for their alleged involvement in a clash with police during a BJYM rally in Ranchi. Prominent BJP leaders such as Babulal Marandi and Amar Kumar Bauri were named in the FIR.
The Ranchi SSP stated that action would be taken against the accused soon. The police registered the FIR based on the magistrate’s statement. Lalpur Police Station in-charge confirmed the filing of the FIR and mentioned that BJP workers protested against the police’s actions.
The clash occurred when BJYM workers broke barricades during the protest rally against the Hemant Soren government’s alleged injustices and unfulfilled promises. The police used tear gas, water cannons, and rubber bullets to disperse the protesters, resulting in injuries on both sides.
Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023, was enforced by the district administration, prohibiting public gatherings near the venue. Overall, the incident has sparked a debate around freedom of expression in public spaces.
