On Independence Day, a team of hackers associated with Ukraine’s Defense Ministry launched a massive cyber attack on Russian mobile communication and Internet service providers, as well as data banks and cloud storages of various industries in Russia. The attack was reportedly in response to these Russian resources providing support and finance for the war in Ukraine.
The cyber attack affected multiple Russian users, causing malfunctions in online operations of mobile communication service providers and online platforms such as email, meal delivery, and taxi services. Additionally, industries supporting Russia’s arms manufacturing industry, including automobile factories and equipment suppliers, were targeted.
The attack resulted in the destruction of servers and service PCs at industrial facilities, as well as cloud and file storages, websites, and a significant amount of information. Ukrainian hackers also inserted propaganda content on the websites they disabled.
In a related incident, the GUR successfully conducted a drone attack on a field ammunition depot in Russia. These actions serve as a demonstration of Ukraine’s cyber and military capabilities in the ongoing conflict with Russia.
