Flooding in Bangladesh and India: Rescuers Scrambling to Evacuate Flooded Communities

Recent heavy rains have caused devastating floods in Bangladesh and northeast India, resulting in at least 36 deaths and affecting nearly 4.5 million people in Bangladesh alone. The flooding has forced hundreds of homes underwater, leaving residents stranded on rooftops.

In Tripura, India, at least 23 people have died, with over 64,000 seeking shelter in relief camps. The region has experienced heavy rainfall, causing rivers to reach extreme levels on both sides of the border.

Experts attribute the severity of the floods to the human-caused climate crisis, which has exacerbated extreme weather events in the region. Efforts are underway to rescue people from flooded homes, with army and navy personnel evacuating residents by boat.

As water levels continue to rise, shelters are being set up in government buildings and schools, with over 25,000 people seeking refuge. The situation remains critical, with more rain expected in the coming days.

Despite challenges in coordination and rescue efforts, communities are coming together to support those affected by the devastating floods.
