Countdown to COP29: Azerbaijan to Host Global Climate Conference
Excitement is building as over 60 documents are set to be adopted at the upcoming 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29). Lead Negotiator Yalchin Rafiyev of Azerbaijan announced this news during the “29 Climate Conversations: Road to COP29” media workshop in Baku.
Rafiyev outlined the ambitious agenda for COP29, with the opening ceremony on November 11 in Baku followed by a government summit on November 12–13. Thematic days focusing on topics like agriculture and food will take place from November 14 to 22, showcasing formal and informal discussions.
Highlighting the importance of financial support for climate action, Rafiyev emphasized the New Collective Quantified Goal on Climate Finance as a critical test for COP29 participants. With ambitious goals in sight, COP29 aims to be a milestone event with the highest number of adopted documents in five years.
