Voices of Disability Initiative (VDI) Executive Director, Catherine Edeh, emphasizes the need for increased rights awareness and inclusion for Persons Living with Disability (PWD), particularly women and girls, to enhance their quality of life. This call was made during a strategic plan review meeting in Abuja, held in partnership with Amplify Change.
Edeh highlighted the evolving landscape in Nigeria, with a growing demand for disability inclusion following the passage of the Disability Act. The strategic review aims to ensure that VDI’s work is comprehensive, addressing access to education, health, equal treatment, and employment opportunities for all, including PWD.
Stakeholders from the public and private sectors were brought together to identify areas for improvement, enhance efficiency, and provide recommendations for strategic focus. The Executive Director of the National Commission for Persons with Disabilities, Ayuba Gufwan, stressed the importance of such reviews in strengthening organizations and advocating for the rights of PWD in Nigeria.
