What is Arbaeen? A Brief Explanation

Welcome to the Fascinating World of Arbaeen

Arbaeen, which means “forty” in Arabic, is a monumental annual pilgrimage observed worldwide. This year, the pilgrimage will take place from August 25 to August 26, 2024.

Arbaeen marks the end of a 40-day mourning period starting with Ashura, commemorating the martyrdom of Hussain ibn Ali on the 20th day of Safar, the second month of the Islamic lunar calendar.

Hussain, the grandson of the Prophet Muhammad and the third Imam in Shia Islam, was martyred in 680 AD at the Battle of Karbala in Iraq, defying Yazid ibn Muawiya to uphold justice and righteousness.

The Legacy of Justice

Hussain’s legacy has inspired notable figures like Nelson Mandela, Mahatma Gandhi, and Charles Dickens, emphasizing the values of justice and sacrifice.

The Transformative Arbaeen Pilgrimage Experience

The Arbaeen pilgrimage, spanning from Najaf to Karbala, offers a transformative journey of reflection and solidarity, much like the Hajj pilgrimage. It brings together people from diverse backgrounds to walk in unity and hope.

Arbaeen 2024: Solidarity with Gaza

This year’s Arbaeen pilgrimage focuses on supporting Palestine against oppression, drawing inspiration from Imam Hussain’s resistance to tyranny and encouraging charity and community engagement.

UK 2024 Arbaeen Procession

In the UK, the Arbaeen UK procession is set to take place on September 1, 2024, in London, inviting volunteers to be part of this symbolic event.

Join us in commemorating the spirit of Arbaeen and standing strong for justice and unity!
