Organisers of the Junior Tour of Wales were forced to alter the route due to the country-wide 20mph speed limit. Three of the five stages had to be adjusted as support vehicles would not be able to keep pace with the riders without exceeding the limit. Despite efforts to secure temporary road orders, the convoy could not maintain speeds through 20mph zones.

The annual race, which has seen famous participants like Geraint Thomas and Tom Pidcock, will kick off in Brynmawr and pass through Powys and Pembrey Country Park before concluding in Monmouthshire. Last September, Wales implemented a 20mph speed limit in built-up areas to improve road safety, with early figures showing a decrease in injuries and deaths. The Welsh government estimates that the change will save lives and reduce casualties, but a petition against the law has garnered significant support. The decision to adjust the race route highlights the ongoing debate between safety measures and the challenges they pose for sporting events.
