Ukraine, India to meet for Joint Working Group on military-tech cooperation.

President Volodymyr Zelensky and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi have agreed to strengthen military-technical cooperation through the Joint Ukrainian-Indian Working Group. This agreement marks Modi’s historic visit to Ukraine, which is the first by an Indian prime minister in over 30 years of diplomatic relations. The Joint Working Group, established by a 2012 Defense Cooperation Agreement, aims to enhance defense agencies’ collaboration and manufacturing partnerships, with plans for the second meeting to be held in India soon.

During Modi’s visit, both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to deepening bilateral relations and signed agreements covering various sectors like medicine, agriculture, and culture. They also paid tribute to Ukrainian children killed in Russia’s full-scale war. This visit follows Modi’s controversial trip to Moscow, where he met with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Despite India’s historical alliance with Russia, the country has maintained close economic ties, reaching a historic high in bilateral trade in 2023.

Modi’s visit to Ukraine raises questions about the future of the Indian-Ukrainian alliance in light of his recent interactions with Putin. Will Ukraine be able to impact this longstanding relationship?
