Recently, the Turkish security forces successfully “neutralized” 16 PKK terrorists in northern Iraq, close to the borders of both countries. This operation targeted areas such as Hakurk, Asos, Gara, and Metina, as confirmed by Türkiye’s National Defense Ministry. The ministry emphasized their commitment to continue with unpredictable, unconventional, rapid, and continuous operations in order to eliminate terrorism at its root.
The PKK, a notorious terrorist group, often utilizes northern Iraq as a base for planning and executing attacks on Türkiye and local communities in northern Syria. The term “neutralize” is commonly used by Turkish authorities to signify that the terrorists either surrendered, were killed, or captured during the operation.
With a long history of violence spanning nearly four decades, the PKK has been responsible for the deaths of over 40,000 individuals in Türkiye. Recognized as a terrorist organization by Türkiye, the US, and the EU, the PKK’s actions have tragically impacted not only adults but also women, children, and infants.
