Recent tensions have escalated in the Aegean Sea as a Turkish ATR-72 maritime patrol aircraft and helicopter breached Greek airspace, as reported by Greek City Times. These aircraft entered the Athens Flight Information Region without filing the mandatory flight plan, violating international aviation regulations.
Greek City Times highlighted that this incident is part of a concerning pattern, with multiple violations occurring over the southeastern Aegean. The Hellenic National Defense General Staff has documented daily airspace infringements in the region from August 12 to 17, as well as on August 19 and 20, involving Turkish maritime patrol aircraft and unmanned aerial vehicles.
The repeated violations have raised tensions between Greece and Turkey in the region, emphasizing the need for diplomatic resolution and adherence to international aviation protocols.
