The Sudanese Ministry of Interior has established a special committee to address unregulated foreign presence in the country, particularly focusing on immigration and asylum violations. The committee, led by Deputy Director of Police Lt Gen Mohammed Ibrahim Awadallah, has already begun implementing recommendations from previous workshops aimed at controlling foreign presence and reviewing identity.
State-level committees have been formed to enforce workshop outcomes and monitor foreign presence, with training provided to personnel involved in overseeing foreign affairs. Political analyst Ayman Ibrahim highlighted the government’s efforts to address chaotic and illegal foreign presence, particularly among Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militias.
In response to the large influx of foreigners participating in conflicts, the Ministry of Interior revoked the citizenship of 3,500 individuals who acquired it illegally under the previous regime. Despite these measures, Ibrahim believes that more serious consideration is needed to address the substantial issue of chaotic foreign presence for national security.
Efforts to regulate foreign presence were discussed at a forum organized by the Red Sea University in collaboration with the Ministry of Interior, following reports of over 3.4 million foreigners in Sudan before the outbreak of conflict in April 2023.
