Former Reality TV Star Fined €80,000 for Illegal Behavior at Concert

The Leipzig District Court fined Melanie Müller, a former reality TV star turned pop singer, €80,000 for illegal behavior at a September 2022 concert and drug possession. Video evidence showed her making gestures resembling the Hitler salute during a Leipzig concert attended by a crowd with right-wing ties.

Despite denying right-wing sympathies, Judge Lucas Findeisen found Müller guilty of using symbols associated with terror organizations. In addition to the fine, she was sentenced for possession of cocaine and ecstasy.

The defense claimed Müller was merely pumping her fist to energize the crowd, but the court disagreed, noting her chants echoed Nazi slogans. Müller’s claim that the drugs belonged to a friend was also rejected.

Once popular in Germany, Müller’s career suffered due to negative media coverage. She now only has gigs in Mallorca, with hopes of regaining financial stability. The verdict is subject to appeal.
