NYSC Certificates Issued to Corps Members in Bandits’ Lair

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has made a significant announcement regarding prospective corps members who were kidnapped and unable to complete their national service. The Director-General, Brigadier General Yushau Ahmed, stated that these victims will be issued certificates without having to undergo the one-year service.

The victims, who were en route to Sokoto State for orientation, were abducted in Zamfara State in August 2023. They were held captive but have now been released, the last one just this week. The DG emphasized that no ransom was paid for their release, crediting the efforts of the Department of State Security and the Nigerian Army.

While no arrests have been made, the gang leader responsible for the kidnapping has been eliminated. A rescued corps member expressed gratitude for their freedom and commended the NYSC and security agencies for their support.

Overall, this decision by the NYSC shows compassion and flexibility towards those who have faced traumatic experiences, ensuring they are not further burdened by their past ordeal.
