Nasir County lawmakers to tackle internal tensions

Lawmakers from Upper Nile State’s Nasir County are gearing up for a peace mission to address rising tensions in the area. Recent clashes between armed youth and SSPDF members have resulted in casualties, highlighting the urgent need for trust-building efforts.

Leading the mission is SPLM-IO member Gatwech Lam Puoch, who emphasized the importance of mobilizing resources for logistics. The committee, headed by Nasir County Commissioner James Gatluak Lew Thiep, aims to disseminate peace messages and foster trust between civilians and SSPDF.

With civilians bearing the brunt of conflicts, the mission seeks to alleviate the humanitarian crisis and prevent further displacement. Both the local committee and an Army team from Juba are working in tandem to address the root causes of the unrest.

As efforts to restore peace gain momentum, collaboration with partners like UNMISS is crucial for successful implementation. The commitment of both the lawmakers and SSPDF leadership signifies a united front in achieving stability for Nasir County.
