Knife Attack at Solingen Festival Leaves Several Dead and Injured
Tragedy struck the 650th-anniversary festival in Solingen, Germany, as a man went on a stabbing spree, randomly attacking passers-by with a knife. Reports from German media indicate that three people have been killed, with others in critical condition. Organizers are working alongside paramedics to save the lives of nine individuals.
The festival was abruptly halted as sirens blared through the downtown area, and helicopters circled above. The police have launched a manhunt for the assailant, who targeted victims at the Fronhof marketplace during a live music performance.
Residents were urged to evacuate the city center as armed officers combed through the area, cordoning off sections of the city. Solingen, with a population of 160,000, is known for its proximity to Cologne and Düsseldorf in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany’s most populous state.
