Egypt to host Hamas-Israel cease-fire talks

Egypt is currently hosting US and Israeli delegations for talks on a Gaza ceasefire proposal, aimed at persuading warring factions to compromise on conditions for ending hostilities in Gaza. The negotiations began in Cairo on Thursday, with officials seeking compromises on plans to provide security along Egypt’s border with Gaza. The discussions focus on ending the conflict between Israel and the Palestinian militant group Hamas, which has resulted in significant casualties.

Egypt, along with the United States and Qatar, has been mediating negotiations to bring the warring factions to a truce agreement and secure the release of Israeli hostages and Palestinian prisoners. The two-day meeting aims to find a resolution after the rejection of a previous proposal by Hamas, aligning with Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu’s conditions.

Key demands include Israeli forces withdrawing from the Philadelphi Corridor to allow for humanitarian aid access and to curb weapon smuggling. Mediators are seeking to pressure Netanyahu to reach an agreement. The talks are critical for bringing an end to the ongoing conflict in Gaza.
