Recent reports indicate a significant increase in sand prices, with industry sources revealing a 20 to 40 MAD surge just two weeks ago. Construction blocks have also seen a price hike, now selling for 7 MAD per unit.
Citizens and industry professionals in Al Haouz have raised concerns over a shortage of sand supply in earthquake-affected areas, as only one truckload is being delivered per day, exacerbating the situation.
Leaders like Anjar Idar from the Ankal commune emphasize the urgent need for government intervention to monitor and control escalating prices as the rebuilding process progresses slowly. Mohamed Belhassan, coordinator of the Earthquake Victims’ Coordination in Amzmiz, echoes these sentiments, calling for immediate action to enforce price regulations.
