In August, President Volodymyr Zelensky directed Ukraine’s government to approve a national strategy for veterans’ policy and transitioning from military to civilian life. With 1.2 million registered veterans in Ukraine as of May, this number is expected to grow significantly post-Russian conflict. Zelensky emphasized the importance of integrating veterans into society for Ukraine’s future development at the International Veterans Forum in Kyiv. The government aims to implement a veteran policy strategy until 2030 and a transition system by 2032.
Defense Minister Rustem Umerov announced the development of the Veteran+ online app to provide public services for Ukrainian veterans. A recent survey revealed that 70% of Ukrainians have friends or family involved in frontline combat since February 2022. Additionally, Ukraine has launched the Army+ app, aiming to digitize military service processes and reduce paperwork.
Supporting Ukraine’s veterans is crucial for the nation’s progress and honor for those who defended the country. The government’s initiatives and strategies reflect a commitment to appreciating and supporting veterans’ contributions.
