US Envoy to UN: Ceasefire Deal in Sight as Talks Continue

A potential ceasefire and hostage release deal in Gaza is on the horizon, according to US Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield during a UN Security Council meeting. The US has proposed a bridging agreement to end the violence in Gaza, urging Hamas to agree as Israel has already accepted the proposal.

The ongoing negotiations in Cairo, mediated by the US and Egypt, aim to bring an end to the almost year-long conflict in Gaza. However, Hamas accuses Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of obstructing progress by insisting on territorial control within Gaza.

Despite US claims of an imminent deal, disagreements persist between Hamas and Israel. The Biden administration continues to push for a ceasefire, but Netanyahu remains firm on key issues. The US has yet to pressure Israel for more flexibility in negotiations.
