Trump plans for mixed-status families but leaves possibility of separations and mass deportations.

Trump plans for mixed-status families but leaves possibility of separations and mass deportations.

Former President Donald Trump defended the high cost of deporting undocumented immigrants during a recent visit to the U.S.-Mexico border in Sierra Vista, Arizona. He emphasized the need to prioritize the deportation of criminals, despite the significant financial implications. Trump’s plan lacks clarity on funding and he made no mention of how mixed-status families, which include American citizens, would be handled.

Additionally, Trump criticized Vice President Kamala Harris and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz for their approach to border security, accusing them of contributing to a surge in migrant crime. His visit to Arizona marks his first border visit this year, where he once again highlighted his administration’s efforts to secure the border.

Garrett Haake and Jake Traylor reported from Sierra Vista, Ariz., with Alexandra Marquez in Washington contributing to this article.
