Businessman Ayii Duang Faces Legal Action Over Alleged Debt
The Committee of Trade and Industry at the TNLA is set to take legal action against businessman Ayii Duang Ayii for ignoring a summons regarding an alleged debt of USD 193,248,955.90 owed by the government to his company, South Sudan Supreme Airlines.
The committee, led by Mayen Deng Alier, seeks clarification on contracts between the airline and a foreign company, Noble Enterprise Ltd, Kenya. Despite two summonses, Duang has refused to appear before the committee, prompting potential contempt charges.
Deng emphasized the committee’s authority to summon individuals and gather evidence, not to pass judgment. The businessman, however, threatened legal action against the parliament, claiming that the government owes his company over US$190 million from a contract during the 2013 conflict.
