Riyadh Metro Set to Launch in 2023

The Saudi government has confirmed that the Riyadh Metro will be operational this year, making it the world’s largest metro project built in a single phase. Saudi Minister of Transport and Logistics Services Saleh Al-Jasser stated that the project aims to transform Saudi Arabia into a global logistics hub, leveraging its strategic location.

Jointly carried out by Maersk and the Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani) with SR 1.3 billion, the newly opened logistics zone is expected to handle 200,000 standard containers annually, creating over 2,500 job opportunities. This facility complements the national strategy for transportation and logistics services, enhancing the economic value of the sector.

Furthermore, Riyadh has seen significant advancements in the Logistics Performance Index and maritime connectivity indicators, reflecting improvements in transportation integration. The Royal Commission for Riyadh City (RCRC) has also awarded contracts for road development worth SR13 billion as part of the city’s transportation system enhancement initiative.

With these initiatives, Riyadh aims to establish itself as a major global city and a hub for sustainable logistics and transportation services in the Middle East, aligning with the goals of Vision 2030.
