Morocco’s cybersecurity infrastructure is under threat as government agencies face a surge in sophisticated cyberattacks, primarily attributed to foreign hacking groups with alleged ties to Algeria. The country’s growing international recognition and digital transformation are seen as key reasons for the escalating attacks.
While security and military institutions have improved their defenses, many government agencies and ministries lack the expertise and resources to protect their systems. Experts suggest investing in training for cybersecurity professionals and adopting proactive measures to mitigate vulnerabilities.
Hassan Kherjoug, an information development expert, recommends increased training for government employees and a more practical recruitment approach similar to Israel’s model. Despite ranking 30th globally in cybersecurity in July 2024, Morocco remains a target for malicious actors due to its rapid digital transformation and territorial claims.
It is crucial for Moroccan organizations to stay vigilant and strengthen their cybersecurity measures to safeguard sensitive data and critical services from cyber threats.
