Katsina refutes claims of promoting arming citizens.

The Katsina State Commissioner of Internal Security and Home Affairs, Nasir Muazu, clarified misconceptions about the state’s approach to community security, denying claims that citizens were directed to arm themselves against banditry.

The government has instead implemented a Community Volunteer Groups program to train and equip volunteers in remote communities with necessary skills and resources to defend themselves. These volunteers serve as the first line of defense in areas hard to reach by security forces.

By empowering locals with self-defense knowledge and tools, the government aims to enhance overall security and reduce bandit attacks. The program, called Community Volunteer Groups (CVG), exemplifies the government’s commitment to involving the people in fighting insecurity.

The state continues to prioritize citizen safety and will collaborate with federal security agencies to maintain peace. Reports of urging citizens to arm themselves are inaccurate, as the state focuses on training and supporting community volunteers for security.
