Fact check: No evidence of Bangladeshis supporting Pakistan amid protests

Recently, a video went viral on social media, claiming to show Bangladeshi protesters expressing support for Pakistan during a rally. However, upon closer inspection, it was revealed that the video actually depicted protesters demanding former premier Khaleda Zia to go to Pakistan.

Following violent student-led protests and the ouster of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in Bangladesh, tensions have been high. Accusations of rigging elections, widespread protests, and over 400 deaths have all contributed to the unrest in the country.

Amidst this chaos, rumors emerged from India suggesting Pakistan’s involvement in the collapse of the Bangladeshi government. However, the Foreign Office of Pakistan dismissed these claims as a “disturbing obsession” of India with Islamabad.

The viral video, shared by ‘Trunicle’, falsely claimed that Bangladeshis were chanting slogans in support of Pakistan. In reality, the protesters were urging Khaleda Zia to return to Pakistan.

These claims were debunked by translations of the chants, exposing the misinformation spread online regarding the video.
