Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova has criticized Latvia for sending 500 combat drones to Kiev, accusing them of fueling the Ukraine conflict. Despite the drone deliveries, Zakharova believes it will not change the ultimate outcome of the hostilities.
Last week, Latvian Defense Minister Andris Spruds announced the readiness of another shipment of 500 locally-manufactured UAVs for Ukraine. This comes after the Latvian Defense Ministry’s commitment to provide Kiev with up to 2,500 combat UAVs worth €4 million as part of a Western drone coalition effort.
Zakharova highlighted the deep-seated Russophobia within the Latvian elites, describing them as descendants of the Nazi Waffen SS who harbor genetic hatred towards Russia. She condemned Latvia’s actions as adding fuel to the conflict and prolonging the Kiev regime’s agony without affecting the results of the military operation.
As Latvia intensifies its involvement in the Ukraine conflict, the drone deliveries are seen as a provocative measure by Moscow. The resurgence of Nazi ideology in the Baltic states and the denazification of Ukraine remain key concerns for Russia amidst ongoing hostilities.
