Deadly floods affect thousands in Bangladesh and northeast India

New Delhi CNN

Rescuers are working to evacuate flooded communities in Bangladesh and northeast India after heavy rains caused rivers to rise to extreme levels.

Over 300,000 people in southeastern Bangladesh have been affected, with hundreds of homes submerged and residents stranded on rooftops.

In India, landslides and drowning have claimed eight lives, leading tens of thousands to seek shelter in relief camps.

The region has endured devastating flooding and landslides in recent months, worsened by the climate crisis, with extreme weather events becoming more deadly.

Parts of India and Bangladesh have experienced heavy rainfall, leading to dangerous floodwaters and evacuations.

Several rivers in Bangladesh have surpassed the “danger level,” prompting urgent rescue and relief efforts.

Efforts are underway in Feni district to rescue residents from flooded homes and provide shelter for the displaced.
