The USS ABRAHAM LINCOLN Carrier Strike Group, with F-35 fighters and squadron minelayers, has arrived in the Middle East, as per the United States Central Command (CENTCOM).
In response to escalating tensions in the region, US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin expedited the transit of this carrier strike group to the Central Command area of responsibility. This move comes following threats from Iran to retaliate against Israel for the assassination of Hamas political bureau chief Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran.
Austin emphasized that the USS ABRAHAM LINCOLN Carrier Strike Group would enhance the existing capabilities of the USS THEODORE ROOSEVELT Carrier Strike Group. Additionally, he deployed the USS Georgia (SSGN 729) guided missile submarine to the Central Command region.
