Botswana finds massive 2,492-carat diamond

Botswana made a dazzling discovery at one of its mines – a massive 2,492-carat diamond, believed to be the second-largest ever found globally. The precious stone was recovered by Canadian mining company Lucara Diamond Corp. at its Karowe Mine, using cutting-edge X-ray technology to locate it.

The find has sparked excitement within the industry, with Lucara’s president William Lamb expressing elation at the recovery of such an extraordinary gem. Interestingly, the diamond’s weight surpasses any discovered in the past century, with only the historic Cullinan Diamond from South Africa in 1905 eclipsing it in size at 3,106 carats.

Botswana plans to showcase this remarkable discovery to the world, with President Mokgweetsi Masisi taking a special viewing. This significant find adds to the country’s rich history of producing some of the world’s most exceptional diamonds.

Stay tuned for more updates on this remarkable gem!
