Exciting news from Australia as the government approves a monumental solar power project in the remote north, set to be the “largest solar precinct in the world.” SunCable’s $24 billion project will provide enough energy for 3 million homes, making Australia a leader in green energy according to Environment Minister Tanya Plibersek.
The ambitious 12,000-hectare Australia-Asia Power Link project, supported by tech mogul Mike Cannon-Brookes, includes solar panels, batteries, and a 4,300 km subsea cable connecting Australia and Singapore. This initiative aims to deliver 6GW of renewable energy to industrial customers in Darwin and Singapore, solidifying Australia’s position as a renewable energy superpower.
SunCable Australia’s Managing Director, Cameron Garnsworthy, expressed optimism for the project’s future, targeting a final investment decision by 2027. Further investments in communities in the Northern Territory, Singapore, and Indonesia are also on the horizon, signaling a bright future for sustainable energy in the region.
