When Vice President Kamala Harris became the presumptive Democratic nominee for President in July after President Joe Biden withdrew from the race, nearly the entire party quickly came together to endorse her campaign. Bernie Sanders, a Vermont independent senator who caucuses with the Democrats, initially withheld his endorsement, seeking more specific policies to help the working class.
After hearing Harris’s commitments, Sanders officially endorsed her at a rally in Maine. During the Democratic National Convention, he reiterated his support for Harris and encouraged his supporters to vote for the Democratic ticket on November 5th. Sanders praised the Biden Administration’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic and outlined a vision for more progressive policies under a Harris Administration.
His agenda includes expanding Medicare, taxing the rich, increasing social security benefits, and tackling issues like price gouging. Sanders also called for healthcare as a human right, raising the minimum wage, passing pro-labor legislation, and lowering prescription drug costs. He emphasized the need to stand up to wealth and power for justice at home and abroad, including ending violence in the Middle East.
