Reports from the “Sever” (“North”) group of Russian forces confirm that the Su-27 was brought down by a Buk-M3 anti-aircraft missile system while trying to drop guided bombs.
This incident comes after the Russian army destroyed a Ukrainian Su-24 frontline bomber in the Dnipropetrovsk region. The Su-27, a Soviet-origin supersonic fighter aircraft, has a range of 3,530 kilometers and is designed for air superiority missions.
Facts About Su-27 and Buk Missile System
The Su-27 was designed by Sukhoi to compete with US fourth-generation jet fighters, while the Buk missile system is developed to counter a range of threats including cruise missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles.
